About Me
Hi, my name is Alix, welcome to my blog!
I am joining today from the traditional territory of the Lekwungen peoples and acknowledge with respect the Songhees, Esquimalt and WSÁNEĆ peoples whose historical relationships with the land continue to this day. I feel so grateful to be living and learning on these lands. I always like to take a moment to think about the land that I grew up on, the traditional territories of the Ligwiłda’xw people; the We Wai Kai, Wei Wai Kum, and Kwiakah First Nations, whose deep relationships with the land continue to this day. My love for nature began in my early years, and I am forever grateful to have grown up in a place of abundant natural beauty stewarded by the Ligwiłda’xw people since time immemorial.

I am currently in my second semester of the Education PDP program and hold an undergrad in Marine Biology. As a future educator, I’m deeply interested in alternative approaches to learning, particularly outdoor education, land-based learning, and inquiry-based learning. I see the powerful impact these pedagogies and values can have on students and would love to make it more accessible for all learners. Much of my own learning has come from time spent in nature, and I care deeply about the environment and conservation. I am excited to work with students in learning from the land together and developing meaningful relationships with it.
Outside of school, you’ll most often find me outdoors. I spend a lot of my time on a bike, and in the summer I’m almost always bike-packing, hiking or mountain biking. I also love reading and exploring different forms of art, though I’ll admit I’m a bit guiltily of abandoning projects to try something new. Right now, I am learning how to needle-felt little animals!
I am excited to learn more about technology in education this semester and will be using this blog to document a new learning journey of mine: American Sign Language (ASL). I will be sharing weekly reflections on learning the language through an online course, as well as what I am learning about the Deaf community, culture and related resources.
Thank you for being here, I hope you enjoy following along!
